Lanthanum tungstate is a promising material to be used as electrolyte in proton conducting fuel cells, or as a mixed proton–electron conducting membrane for hydrogen separation, and its mechanical properties are crucial for these applications. Lanthanum tungstates with a La/W atomic ratio between 4.8 and 6.0 have been investigated at room temperature at micro/nanoindentation range.
