Pterygium is a common ocular surface lesion originates from altered limbal stem cells, which proliferate into the cornea, accompanied by degradation of Bowman’s layer and elastosis. Corneo-conjunctival changes could trigger tear film alterations that, in some conditions, reduce corneal sensitivity.
