    El present treball aborda l'estudi dels convertidors Back-2-Back, amb especial èmfasi en els seus efectes sobre el mode comú. Per l'estudi es realitza una revisió de les diferents causes conegudes dels corrents pels coixinets, així com del mode comú aportat pels diferents mètodes de modulació, tant en VSIs com en convertidors B2B.S'estudien diversos mètodes de modulació originals que permeten reduccions importants en el mode comú aportat, i per tant, en la vida dels accionaments i càrregues. Per finalitzar, s'estudien determinades aportacions també originals que permeten aprofitar el mode comú per a obtenir efectes beneficiosos quan l'aplicació del mateix no ens causa preocupació.

    This work deals with the study of Back-2-Back converters, with special emphasis on its effects on the common mode. For the study performed, a review of the different known causes for bearing currents and the contribution to the common mode voltatge by different modulation methods, in both B2B and VSIs converters. Various original methods of modulation are studied that allow us significant reductions in the common mode provided, and therefore the life of the drives and connected loads. Finally, we study some original contributions using the common mode to take benefits when applying it does not cause us concern.

    El present treball aborda l'estudi dels convertidors Back-2-Back, amb especial èmfasi en els seus efectes sobre el mode comú. Per l'estudi es realitza una revisió de les diferents causes conegudes dels corrents pels coixinets, així com del mode comú aportat pels diferents mètodes de modulació, tant en VSIs com en convertidors B2B. S'estudien diversos mètodes de modulació originals que permeten reduccions importants en el mode comú aportat, i per tant, en la vida dels accionaments i càrregues. Per finalitzar, s'estudien determinades aportacions també originals que permeten aprofitar el mode comú per a obtenir efectes beneficiosos quan l'aplicació del mateix no ens causa preocupació

    A control scheme for Squirrel Cage Induction Generator (SCIG) based wind turbine cluster (or entire wind farm) connected by means of a single high voltage direct current-Voltage Source Converter (VSC-HVDC) is presented. The proposed scheme extends the SCIG vector control of a single wind turbine with a full power converter to a whole wind turbine cluster with a single power converter calculating and regulating the optimal wind turbine cluster electrical frequency. This concept can be used in wind farms composed of multiple clusters of multiple wind turbines, and for entire offshore wind farms connected to the main grid using a HVDC point-to-point connection or a multiterminal HVDC grid.     For the last years, PV (photovoltaic) generation has been having an important impact on LV (low voltage) and MV (medium voltage) grids in Spain, due to the increasing number of installations. As power monitoring of the generation is in most cases not required, utilities are forced to make assumptions on PV power generation in order to perform network planning studies for both peak demand and contingency analysis. These assumptions increase errors committed during the analysis, as the number of PV installations increases. This paper presents a methodology for estimating PV active power generation values for planning purposes in MV and LV power systems, from historic generation data, based on the development of correlation models. This methodology is applied to three different examples, using predictors based on real registered data. The methodology was also applied in a typical grid study and it's error was determined.     Magnetic ballast discharge lamp modeling has been extensively studied because these lamps can be an important source of harmonics. Discharge lamp models usually represent the arc voltage by a square waveform. However, this waveform can be far from actual arc voltages, which affects the accuracy of the lamp models. This paper investigates the actual arc voltage behavior of discharge lamps from laboratory measurements and proposes a novel characterization of these voltages to reformulate the conventional models. The accuracy of the new model is validated with experimental measurements.

    Purpose – The aim of this paper is to simulate, test and evaluate an induction heating process considering the converter’s performance. Design/methodology/approach – In case of continuous induction hardening processes, the load changes abruptly during the transition to Curie temperature, becoming significant considering the converter’s behavior. In this paper, an induction heating system is simulated combining the numerical analysis of the electromagnetic-thermal and electrical problem, focusing mainly on the converter’s performance. The simulations are realized by using commercial FEM software and the voltage and the frequency are manually varied according to the converter’s control. The system has also been implemented in an experimental setup and the results obtained have been compared with the simulations. Findings – The importance of considering the converter’s dynamics was observed during the simulations. The simulation results showed a correspondence with the experimental results, validating the simulation procedure and demonstrating that the converter’s behavior has to be considered. Originality/value – A power converter for a real industrial induction heating process where there is a sudden change in the load parameters is simulated and experimentally tested. The importance of considering the variation of frequency and voltage during the simulation of induction heating systems is demonstrated. Some considerations for induction heating modeling regarding converter’s performance are given and the importance of converter’s dynamics is introduced. In addition, a simple and flexible method of simulating the converter operation with commercial software is presented

    This paper compares different cascaded and multilevel topologies to interface supercapacitors to a dc bus in regenerative braking applications. It is shown that the modular multilevel dc/dc converter (MMC) can benefit from both reduced voltage and increased frequency across the inductor to reduce its weight and volume when using phase shifting modulation. The proposed controlmethod is able to balance supercapacitor voltage while providing precise output current control. The converter topology and control method are validated with simulations and experimental results.

    Regenerative braking is presented in many electric traction applications such as electric and hybrid vehicles, lifts and railway. The regenerated energy can be stored for future use, increasing the efficiency of the system. This paper outlines the benefits of the MMC (modular multilevel converter) in front of the cascaded or series connection of converters to achieve high voltage from low voltage storage elements such as supercapacitors. The paper compares three different solutions and shows that the MMC can benefit from weight and volume reduction of the output inductance when shifted switching modulation strategy is used. Using this modulation strategy, not only the output frequency is increased, but also the magnitude of the inductor applied voltage is reduced, reducing inductor size and volume.

    In this article, a high-accuracy all-digital resolverto- digital converter is presented. The two basic components of a conventional tracking R/D converter, the phase detector and the loop filter, are software implemented by frequency shifting techniques and a decoupled Double Synchronous Rotating reference Frame-based PLL (DSRF-PLL). This PLL allows the simultaneous extraction of the angular position and speed of the rotatory resolver, even in the presence of gain and phase errors in the resolver. In order to increase accuracy and to minimize the time lag of the whole system, oversampling methods and downsampling FIR digital filters are introduced. Finally, DSP implementation issues, like the use of techniques to synchronize the resolver output signals with the excitation one, are discussed. Using these combined techniques and a standard DSP with a 12-bit ADC, resolutions of up to 14 bits can be achieved with a computation cost of about 13% of the total (100 MIPs). The paper presents the main techniques, simulation and experimental results.

    La regulación de la actividad de la distribución, aspecto sobre el cual versa esta tesis, ha presentado un horizonte cambiante en los últimos años. Tales cambios se hallan relacionados con aspectos como:Retribución debido a la nueva estructuración de los mercados energéticos,· Calidad debido a la necesidad de un suministro de energía con unas características cada vez más estrictas como consecuencia de la participación creciente de sistemas de información y datos sensibles a estos aspectos,· Eficiencia energética, aspecto importante en el horizonte actual por su creciente importancia dentro del panorama de sostenibilidad ambiental en el que se suscribe el sector eléctrico.· Generación Distribuida, la cual hace que pensemos en una demanda y oferta más activa que la que hasta hace algún tiempo teníamos en mente dentro del sector eléctrico y específicamente en la distribución de energía eléctrica.El propósito de esta tesis es brindar en el proceso regulatorio herramientas no solo para la mejora de la regulación de la distribución por si misma sino para la evaluación del proceso a través de herramientas de simulación.De esta forma se presentan diferentes capítulos en los que se establecen diversas propuestas y metodologías para el desarrollo de una regulación de la distribución cercana a las necesidades actuales. En ellas, por ejemplo, se establece una metodología para la evaluación de la calidad de las empresas de distribución con una técnica de cálculo llamada DEA-Data Envelopment Analysis, igualmente se presentan aportes regulatorios en aspectos como el cálculo contable de las empresas de distribución, la eficiencia energética, la generación distribuida y otros aspectos relacionados con estas empresas.Para el análisis de los diversas propuestas regulatorias, se plantea la utilización de herramientas de simulación basadas en diversas plataformas, entre ellas las principales han sido elaboradas bajo metodologías de cálculo basadas en Dinámica de Sistemas (STELLA ITHINK). Se proponen, por lo tanto, herramientas que permiten simular el Valor Agregado de Distribución de una empresa VAD, el Costo promedio de capital WACC y los beneficios de instalar generación distribuida en una zona desde el punto de vista del generador y desde el punto de vista del distribuidor.Los resultados principales del estudio se muestran en cada capítulo; sin embargo, para este resumen cabe aclarar que se hacen propuestas en los siguientes:Análisis de la Regulación de la distribución desde el punto de vista metodológico y su aplicación en diversos países.Comparación internacional de la aplicación de las metodologías de regulación de la distribución en diversos países.Propuesta metodológica y aplicación de la metodología DEA para la comparación de la calidad en empresas de distribución.Propuestas regulatorias para evaluar diversos aspectos involucrados con la regulación de la distribución.Desarrollo de Modelos y Herramientas de cálculo para evaluar y simular efectos de políticas regulatorias en la retribución de la distribución.Análisis y propuestas para involucrar en el proceso retributivo de la distribución la eficiencia energética.Análisis y propuestas para involucrar en el proceso retributivo de la distribución de energía eléctrica los efectos de la generación distribuida.De un modo general, se establece una metodología que permite generar propuestas regulatorias para el sector de la distribución de energía eléctrica y su evaluación con herramientas de simulación.

    The regulation of the distribution activity, aspect that deals with this thesis, has been submitted changing horizons in recent years. Such changes are related to issues such as:· Retribution: due to the new structuring of energy markets· Quality: due to the need of a supply energy with increasing stringent characteristics as a result of participation growing information systems and sensitive data these,· Energy efficiency, which is important in current horizon of it's growing importance within environmental sustainability of the landscape in which supports the electricity sector.· Distributed Generation, which makes think of a more active demand and supply than until some time had in mind within the electricity sector and specifically in the distribution electricity.The purpose of this thesis is to provide in the process regulatory tools not only for improving regulation of the distribution per se, but for through process evaluation tools simulation.This will have different chapters in establishing various proposals and methodologies development of a regulation of the distribution close to current needs. In them, example, establishing a methodology for assessing the quality of companies distribution with a technique called DEA-calculation DataEnvelopment Analysis, also presented regulatory contributions in areas such as the calculationAccounting for distribution companies, efficiency energy, distributed generation and other aspects associated with these companies.For the analysis of the various regulatory proposals, we propose the use of tools simulation based on various platforms, including the major have been produced under calculation methodologies based on System Dynamics (STELLA iThink). We propose, therefore, tools to simulate the Value AddedVAD distribution company, the average cost of WACC capital and the benefits of installing generation distributed in an area from the point of view generator and from the point of view of the distributor.The main results are shown in each chapter, but for this summary shall be clear that proposals are made as follows:Analysis of the regulation of the distribution from methodological point of view and it's application in various countries.International comparison of the implementation of methodologies for regulating the distribution various countries.Methodological proposal and application of the methodology DEA to compare the quality of distribution companies.Regulatory proposals to assess various aspects involved in the regulation of the distribution.Development of models and calculation tools evaluates and simulate effects of regulatory policies the remuneration of the distribution.Analysis and proposals to engage in the process remuneration of the distribution efficiency energy.Analysis and proposals to engage in the process remuneration of the electricity distribution effects of distributed generation.In general, establishing a methodology allows the generation of regulatory proposals for the sector of electricity distribution and evaluation simulation tools.

    Urban DC railway substations are growing in size due increasing capacity demand. Several challenges associated with the increase of power demand can be met using power electronics. The proposed system is based on DC-autotransformers and active rectifiers working similarly to those in 3-wire AC railway electrification system. Conventional simulation software (Idom-REPS-DC) has been adapted to the system. A real subway line and the same line with the proposed 3-Wire DC working in the same conditions are simulated. The global performance of the system and the preliminary sizing of the converters involved are evaluated.
