The Sancho Reservoir in SW Spain has been impacted by acid mine drainage (AMD) since the Tharsis mine stopped activity in 1998. As a result, the reservoir exhibits lowpH (~3.5) and high aqueous concentrations of sulfate, aluminum, iron and trace metals.
