UPC research news
  • ESADE, IED and UPC students once again team up with CERN to find solutions to societal challenges
A group of 30 students from ESADE, the IED and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya’s Barcelona School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSETB) and Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB) were chosen for the third consecutive year to participate in Challenge Based Innovation (CBI Mediterranean). This experimental innovation training programme, which is open to universities worldwide, aims to bridge the gap between science and society by promoting novel solutions for the future of humankind in collaboration with the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), a pioneering particle physics centre.
  • UPC researchers, in collaboration with the companies COMSA and GMN, create a new material from textile fibres of old tyres
Lluís Gil and Xavier Cañavate, researchers and professors at the Terrassa School of Industrial, Aerospace and Audiovisual Engineering (ESEIAAT) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), in collaboration with the companies COMSA and Gestión Medioambiental de Neumáticos (GMN), have created a new material from textile fibres of used tyres. This product incorporates a tyre component that was previously not reused.
  • UPC technology in the design of a road safety barrier that reduces maintenance costs and the impact of accidents
Researchers belonging to the Concrete Structure Technology research group of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), along with the companies GIVASA, SERVIÀ CANTÓ, EIFFAGE INFRAESTRUCTURAS and Applus+ IDIADA, have designed and built a prototype of a concrete crash barrier for interurban roads that, in comparison with the concrete barriers already in place, reduces the degree of severity of vehicle impact in accidents and therefore of injury to vehicle occupants.
