The general objective of the UPC sub-project is to improve the methodology used in follow-up studies. The development of advanced methods in this field is motivated by the need to better design and analyze clinical trials and observational studies of complex diseases. The questions of interest come from the study of cardiovascular diseases, oncology, infectious diseases and building engineering and have been grouped into three areas: 1) the design of clinical trials with composite endpoints and cost-effectiveness studies, 2) joint modeling of survival data and longitudinal data, and 3) the analysis of interval-censored data.
This sub-project will consist of: i) consolidating and extending the methodology proposed by Gómez and Lagakos on the selection of the primary endpoint in a clinical trial, based on the relative asymptotic efficiency between two logrank tests, ii) extending joint models for multiple time-to-event variables and more than one longitudinal marker, in order to obtain consistent estimations of the impact of risk factors and individual risk measures, iii) develop hypothesis testing to detect ordered alternatives, construct measures to validate regression models when the response variable or the independent variable are interval-censored, model survival time in the presence of semi-competitive risks and when the intermediate variable is interval-censored. Finally, the collaboration with the EPOs that support this project (Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas, Fundació Lluita contra la Sida, Institut de Recerca Biomèdica de Bellvitge, Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí, Servei Català de la Salut, Laboratorio de Edificación de la UPC) and the implementation of our methods as R libraries, will allow other research or management groups to use them for better decision-making.
