Abstract
This paper presents a coupled flow-deformation finite element analysis of a shallow foundation on an unsaturated loosely compacted silt subjected to variations in the water level. The behaviour of the silt foundation was simulated using the Barcelona Basic Model (BBM) which was implemented into the PLAXIS finite element code.
