Abstract
Alternans is a well-known cardiac pathology, in which the duration of the action potential (AP) alternates at consecutive beats. Due to its proarrhythmic effects it is important to understand the mechanisms un- derlying its genesis. Inside the cell, the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) keeps a high calcium concentration, that is liberated when calcium is introduced into the cell, in a process known as calcium induced calcium release (CICR).
