Abstract
Dynamic speed limits (DSL) strategies are expected to delay onset of congestion thanks to its ability to improve traffic flow homogenization and its mainstream metering feature. A new coordinated strategy, i.e. ramp metering (RM) together with DSL, is proposed to reduce the capacity drop occurrence in the vicinity of an on-ramp.
