Abstract
Rhodopsin and cone opsins, the photosensitive pigments of the vertebrate retina are a distinct group of G-protein-coupled receptors which are covalently bound to a chromophore, 11-cis-retinal. These receptors play a central role in the visual phototransduction process mediating dim-light vision and colour vision respectively.
