Abstract
Cutting tool replacement and maintenance operations might take up to a quarter of the total active time on mechanized tunnel excavation. Tool wear estimation is therefore necessary for accurate planning and costing of such operations. One of the main factors affecting tool replacement rates is abrasivity.
