The research group Forma Moderna (Modern Form) was set up in 2003 through the concatenation of several research projects. Being recognized as Consolidated Research Group by the Generalitat of Catalunya since the 3rd of July of 2009 (2009 SGR 1481), and is also registered as a Singular Research Group since 22nd of July of 2004 (2005 SGR 0014), Forma Moderna has an extensive database on modern architectural production during the 5th and 6th decades of the twentieth century. Relevant graphic documents have been obtained originally from the personal archives of those architects who were the authors of the projects under study, in Latin America and Europe. However, the authorship of these photographic records are in possession of few authors, who played a fundamental role in the diffusion of the works in the past, and nowadays are an essential source of information for those who want to know these projects. Thus, the photographers have played a dual role that has been crucial to the registration of the architectural heritage, and have contributed decisively to form a visual universe. This universe was reference for some architects that had a strong influence over a whole generation of architects and their ambitions. The project aims to locate and evaluate the photographic archives specialized on modern architecture in Latin-American and Europe, in order to take stock of the relationship between the buildings and the images that spread this architecture. This process permits to demarcate the values of these two aspects: crediting and identifying its specific way of looking, detecting ignored pieces of architecture and observing the impact of the photographic image's dissemination of the architectural production. It is important to research deeply on the impact that these two professional worlds have exerted over each other, trying to establish the level of incidence of the visual aspects onto the technical, constructive and social aspects of the architectural project. Forma Moderna has established itself as the focal point of an extensive and solid international network based on cooperation with doctoral students, their home universities and the UPC, which enables the research group to undertake the following proposal. Surely, the conclusions of the research will be relevant for all the PhD thesis and Master dissertations generated and supervised by the research team. Finally, the future results will be spread through an annual forum on the subject, the edition of a digital book containing videos, images and essays, and an exhibition for the general public, not only academics or professionals.
