This project aims to study the scientific, technical and artistic heritage of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona (RACAB), contributing to the study of the history of the academy, forming a database for instruments and models, including the artistic heritage as a witness history of the entity. Also to complete the heritage studies undertaken in industrial engineering schools in Barcelona, i.e. EUETIB, and ETSEIB. As a background perspective of engineering, we propose to study the process of algebraization of mathematics from the sixteenth century, its manifestations in Spain and to analyze the teaching of mathematics in the mathematical courses. Also, we want to analyze the development and dissemination of calculus in the eighteenth century, including the contribution of Leibniz. From the experience of our group, the project intends to continue the study of the content of the courses of the Military Academy of Mathematics of Barcelona and link these courses and their history in Europe. In addition, it is proposed to study the content on the Cátedra Pública de Matemáticas at Barcelona. As regards the transition from engineering to scientific practice in the nineteenth and twentieth century engineering, we propose to study the teachings and new engineering practices. One case is that of F. Santponç and steam technology. Following our experience, we would continue the study of the history of industrial engineering in Spain, critically editing in the Documentos collection the most significant documents. In addition, we would like to study the role of industrial engineers in the Catalan and Spanish society of the twentieth century, before and after the Spanish civil war, analyzing their international links, including its projection in other countries. The project aims to contribute to a comparative analysis of the development of engineering in different countries of Europe, in relation to the training of technicians, their activities and their social position. Besides it would like to analyze the contribution of engineering in shaping modern and contemporary society. Furthermore, we propose to develop studies and experiences to highlight the formative role in the history of science. To do this, we must analyze historical cases on science education, with the possibility of preparing a course on the history of science and technology for high school teachers. Finally, we propose to develop case studies on sustainability in the world of engineering in history and to study in particular the case of solar energy.
