Abstract
A widespread replacement of carnallite by sylvite occurs in the Eocene rock-salt deposits (Cardona Fm.) of the South-Pyrenean foreland basin. Subsurface mapping suggest that the replacement is linked with salt tectonics. Petrographic, SEM-EDS and XRD analyses show that the carnallite-sylvite replacement occurs through a sharp reaction front that is even visible at outcrop scale.
