Abstract
We review a method which allows the simultaneous frequency-conversion and shaping of a light beam into a variety of patterns. The method is based on the controllable dynamics of vortices nested in the light beams. We outline the theoretical idea behind the technique and discuss experimental observations conducted in SH generation in lithium triborate which demonstrate its feasibility.
