Abstract
The proposed project aims at using the research group expertise in the design, construction and operation of atmospheric lidar (Light
Detection and Ranging) systems, and related data processing and analysis to: a) improve the measurement capabilities of the advanced
lidar system built and operated by the group in its premises at the Remote Sensing Lab. (RSLAB) of the Dep. of Signal Theory and
Communications (TSC) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC); b) to improve the processing of the data gathered with the
enhanced lidar instrument and to exploit it in synergy with other co-operartive instrumentation available; c) to derive some microphysical
properties of the atmospheric aerosols, and to study the aerosols impact on the radiative budget of the Earth-atmosphere system. Besides,
an incipient activity on radar atmospheric remote sensing will be expanded in collaboration with groups in the same Department and
abroad. This work will be carried out in close connection with international instrument networks and projects in which the research team
participates.
