Abstract
Complex robotic systems (articulated mobile robots and sensor networks) might be able to develop effective social behaviours by interacting with people. This social competence enables them to perform functions where the emotional and relationship components are central, such as caring for dependent people or elderly living alone. The scientific hypothesis of this project is that the definition of cognitive functions as internal representations of action and perception for a physical autonomous agent situated (cognitive robotics) is a good approximation to the modulation of the human robot interaction, specially in the case of applications associated to social robotics, since physical agents must interact with people in very complex tasks in unstructured environments.
