The historical collaboration between four public organisms such as Puertos del Estado, AZTI, IMEDEA(UIB-CSIC) and Laboratorio de Ingeniería Marítima de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, all related to GOOS networks (Global Ocean Observing Systems), through bilateral projects and the collaboration within national and European I+D+I projects, require a joint recognized organization in a specific thematic network of maritime engineering and oceanography. The main goal of the network is to aggregate the different groups, focusing on the available numerical and observational tools for the analysis of the marine environment, This will allow offering potential users in Spain i) optimized resources searching for scale economies, ii) complementarity in knowledge fields, iii) increase of the critical mass in staff and equipment and, iv) national and international visibility of the network. The proposed joint work will favor the development of Spanish technology in this field and the competitiveness of research groups, consultancy companies and construction firms. This will support the field of marine energies, sustainability of resources and risk management, based on the aggregated physical monitoring and numerical simulation tools, covering the deep water and the associated coastal environments. The network will coordinate the human and material equipment of the four institutions looking for high efficiency rates and more visibility in physical oceanography through the knowledge and technology transfer to the society. The combined efforts and the increase in critical mass will provide a solid foundation to ensure the technical and scientific level of the coordinated group that is being built linked to the present call. This will facilitate the positioning and sustainability in time, improving the level and capacity of Spanish professionals in the fields of marine engineering and oceanography with direct environmental, coastal, harbor and offshore applications.
