Abstract
Results are presented on laser-diode (LD) based intermountain tests carried out as a support activity to ESA's Free-space Optical Communications program to evaluate the Canary Islands (Spain) as an optical communicaton test range. The model predictions of low atmospheric attentuation and turbulence-induced effects were confirmed by a simple link test between observatories, showing that the Canary Islands are a proper site for performing terrestrial experiments of free-space optical communication...
