Abstract
Small visual features are often meaningful for the subjective quality of the coded images in very-low bit-rate video systems. If some significant features of the original images are coded, large improvements in the perceived quality can be achieved at low cost. Perceptual factors must be taken into account in order to select only the most significant features for coding.
