Abstract
Macroporous silicon disks containing ordered channels of 2 µm side and 0.2 mm length (9 × 106 channels cm-2) have been functionalized with a thin layer of Au/TiO2 and Pt/TiO2 photocatalysts and tested in the photoproduction of hydrogen using UV light from water-ethanol mixtures in gas phase. An outstanding hydrogen production rate of 212 µmol h-1 cm-3reactor is demonstrated, which is three orders of magnitude higher than those achieved in conventional photoreactors.
