The objective of the group is to study material of historical, archeological, artistic and heritage interest using chemical analysis and sophisticated scientific equipment. From knowledge of the materials used the chemical mechanismes of the ageing processes and alterations can be explained which is of great interest in the field of conservation and restoration and also to obtain information on the techniques of the production of these materials, their geographical origin, trade etc. The research is based on adapting the techniques to the proposed problems and in optimizing the method of analysis as well as the possibility of using the results in other fields of knowledge. CE, HPLC and FTIR are available and other techniques are used such as: X-ray difraction XRD,Electronic microscope SEM EDS... An inportant part of the research depends on taking advantage of the different techniques attached to Synchrotron light sources.
